Dear Friends, we have some very strong positives, with good changes, but of course many continuing concerns.

Our big best thing now is about the heart: yesterday they were able to take Keila off of the ecmo heart pumping life support, so that the heart is doing its own work now. In echo tests of it, while the heart functions on its own, the heart looked very good yesterday, and even better today. They talk of it looking nearly normal in its work. This is a wonderful state to have reached. There is medication helping to encourage the heart to do its good job squeezing, one which they are already reducing and may remove soon. There are other balancing acts for the heart to maintain, they make constant adjustments to regulate, but we are very encouraged for this, as the heart was the initial and primary trouble.

She is still on the ventilator, and likely will be for a while, and so remains in a sedated state. Please pray with us for the lungs to heal now and regain ability for their own functioning. Fluid build up needs to drain off, which will take time, lasix is removing much, but more must come off. Pray also for protection from any infection, the initial viral infection (waiting for a reading on whether it is present) and for protection from any new infection.

We believe prayers work and thank you for yours. We appreciate the many expressions and supports we receive.

From Greg Ferree:

Two focused prayers for Keila: 1. for the viral infection/flu troubling the heart to subside and heal. This initial cause of her ailment is still with us, and we want it to heal, to free the heart for its recovery.
2. for the heart to rest, recover, heal, to be ready to take over its own functioning in good time.

Keila is stable in response to the current treatments, other organs are staying well, profusion or blood flow to all parts seem strong. We want to see more response for 1 and 2 above, so I ask you to join us in those specific prayers. She continues on ecmo and ventilator, and we expect that to be the norm for now.

Also as I trust you to pray for us all, do so particularly for Aaron and I to stay well, strong, rested, (as we are working on! - with all family admonishing us!) so we can be all we need to be for Keila each day, and for any duration we have before us.

Greg Ferree\’s daughter, Keila Ferree, is in KU Medical Center in CCU with heart failure and damage due to inflammation from influenza. She is on a ventilator and undergoing ECMO matching to relieve her of efforts of pumping blood and breathing, so that heart systems can heal and strengthen. Please keep Keila, her husband Aaron Seigel and her family in your prayers.
